The Friday Concentrate #18: B2B Marketers, Stop Apologizing

I love hanging out with marketers.

Which is good because I’m a marketer and we’re building marketing software for marketers. It’s all marketing, all the time at The Juice.

This week was no exception as we headed to New York City for a series of marketing events.

Great people, great energy, and a few great takeaways.

And a 5K logged.

My favorite learning (or maybe reminder) from the week came from Colin Fleming, EVP of Marketing at Salesforce and the person responsible for spearheading Salesforce+.

When asked what his one piece of advice for an audience of hundreds of marketers was, he responded,

“Stop apologizing for being a B2B Marketer.”

Then he dropped his mic and walked off the stage (okay, not really but he should have).

His encouragement was that the standard for creativity and fun should not be any lower for B2B than it is B2C. Whether you’re selling to “C” or “B,” … we’re all humans!

So, push the envelope. Have fun. Be creative. Move fast. Learn faster.

It’s a great reminder that even the largest enterprise software companies in the world aren’t playing by a boring playbook. There’s certainly a time and place to run the plays but to breakout, stop apologizing and start experimenting.

Next week, The Juice is launching a campaign that will be the biggest, most different thing we’ve done. I’ve had moments of fear, wondering, “Is this too weird?”

It might be. I guess we’ll find out. But I’m not going to apologize for it either way.

See you then and see you there!

Bring The Juice.
